Course Details

Course Summary

HLT30121 Cert III Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care reflects the role of individuals working in health care support roles in a diversity of locations including urban, rural and remote settings. It is specific to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who work under general supervision as part of a multidisciplinary health care team providing primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities. At this level, work involves the provision of generalist health services and the use of some discretion and judgment within the parameters of clearly defined plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in a range of health care settings including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community organisations, and the public or private health sector.

Requirements - To Be Eligible

For your application to be considered, you must meet the following entry requirements.

Entry Requirements

Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher-level course. The BKSB assessment is not used to determine eligibility for entry, but to indicate where students may require further assistance to develop the literacy and numeracy skills embedded in the qualification.

Provide Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identity documentation. This course is an Indigenous-specific program that allows Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples to apply for identified positions within the Health sector, such as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker. The University accepts any or all the following documents to verify an applicant as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or First Nations person:

(a) certified copies of the applicant’s Confirmation of Identity documents. A Confirmation of Identity document is usually provided by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation. The documentation names the individual and confirms they are a recognised member of a specified Indigenous Australian community;

(b) Native Title documentation issued by a Prescribed Body Corporate which specifically names the applicant or provides other formal evidence of ancestral or familial ties; or

(c) in the absence of (a) or (b), an original Statutory Declaration signed by the applicant, accompanied by two supporting documents of verification from a recognised cultural consultant/referee.

 

Vocational Placement and Work Integrated Learning

Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.

Additional information

Mandatory requirements -

To complete this course, you will be required to complete an approved work placement of 120 hours. Students who are currently working in a relevant role may be eligible to undertake placement with their existing employer, subject to approval from the relevant Educational Team Leader and agreement from the employer. 

You will be required to complete a Placement Application Form. This form allows you to apply for approval to complete your placement within your workplace or alternatively, request to attend a CQUniversity-sourced placement. If your workplace does not meet the required criteria for the training package to undertake your placement hours then, CQUniversity will arrange a work placement for you.

CQUniversity’s Workforce Integrated Learning (WIL) team will aim to source a placement located within your community; however, circumstances may require you to relocate to complete the placement.

Mandatory placement checks are compulsory for this course and it is important that students ensure they can meet the requirements for these checks. VET Student Loan Information

VET Student Loans may be available for eligible students in approved Diploma level qualifications. The loan can be used towards Tuition Fees only and does not cover additional expenses such as textbooks, uniforms, equipment, travel, tools, and accommodation or general living expenses. Loan limits or caps may apply for some eligible courses and where a loan limit is reached for a course, students may be required to pay upfront for any remaining units.

RURAL AND REMOTE PILOT TRAINING STRUCTURE

This program will be delivered over 12 months.

Students will have access to on-line resources and assessments via the CQU Moodle and other relevant resources. Students will be supported by face to face delivery, telephone, email and ZOOM sessions. Students will also have access to on-line Library resources and learning support. Students will also be required to complete on job assessment with third party verification. Students must attend practical skills workshops that includes a summary of the unit learning material, followed by practical/simulated skills assessments. Within the duration of the program, students must attend 40 hours of simulated skills development in a clinical learning environment at CQ University. Students must have successfully commenced or completed the Unit written assessments in Moodle units prior to attending the practical skills workshop.
