This qualification reflects the role of a variety of workers who use a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to Health Professional staff for the care of clients. The role of a Health Services Assistant would involve direct client contact under supervision by a Health Professional. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must undertake work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
There are no entry requirements for this course however all students are required to collect and complete mandatory checks as per CQUniversity policy in preparation for the compulsory vocational placement. Please make yourself familiar with the Compulsory Pre-Placement Requirements.
These Mandatory Vocational Placement Requirements ensure patient and student safety. Also refer to the Clinical Placement Guidelines and Mandatory Checks Requirements for Vocational Placement requirements.
Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrollment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.

Vocational Placement is a compulsory 40 hour placement requirement of this course, please refer to the Vocational Placement Guidelines for more details and requirements. Students studying this course will need to attend four (4) day, compulsory practical skills residential workshop. Students will be required to have completed this workshop prior to attending a practical vocational placement. Workshops details will be provided by your teacher and students should confirm workshop dates and attendance prior to booking travel and accommodation.

Residential School Information
As this course is delivered through a blended delivery method (Mixed Mode), students will be required to undertake one (1) x two (2) day residential school block as scheduled by CQUniversity* to prepare for vocational placements.
Residential classes will be held from 8am to 4pm on Mondays to Thursdays. *Residential school dates will be provided by your teacher in accordance with your commencement intake and course progression. Students are advised to confirm dates with their teacher prior to arranging travel and personal arrangements.
Mandatory Check Requirements
As per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety, students are required to meet Mandatory Check Requirements prior to completing their Vocational Placement.

Vocational Placement
Students are required to:
- Meet Mandatory Check Requirements as per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety.
- Complete a mandatory work placement of at least 40 hours of direct support work in at least one aged care, home and community, disability or community service organisation, and
- Meet the assessment conditions per unit of competency, which includes work placement and/or simulated assessment. Depending upon the capacity of the health care providers/facilities in the student’s geographical area, students may be expected to travel to an alternative location to complete their prescribed work placement. Students will only be offered one placement per student, per course, per term.

It is a requirement that you have access to internet connection to access online resources which would include email, ZOOM, Microsoft Teams and Moodle.
It is strongly recommended that you have access to a broadband connection or higher to access online resources that would include but are not limited to, email, internet, video streaming, electronic assessment submission.
All submissions of assessment must be uploaded electronically to the VET Moodle platform.
