Entry Requirements

You must be working in relative industry in order to satisfy the assessment requirements and work hours for the units of competency within this qualification. Students are required to complete 300 hours vocational placement to develop competence in the workplace environment with on-the-job and online assessment and 370 hours / flex / independent learning with assessment preparation and online assessment. This includes: private general dental practice, private specialist practices such as orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and public community Oral health clinics. Candidate must possess sound language, literacy and numeracy skills.

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

  1. Students will receive a Result of Assessment within 21 days of completion of each unit/module or within 21 days of the ‘close of study’ date.
  2. Students who successfully complete all required units/modules will receive their qualification and an Academic Statement itemising all units/modules successfully completed.
  3. Following receipt of written advice from the student (or teacher) that the student does not intend to complete the full course, the student will be issued with a Statement of Attainment listing all units/modules successfully completed.

Graduates will be eligible to apply for positions as a dental assistant within a variety of settings. This includes: private general dental practice, private specialist practice (orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, special needs and paediatric dentistry), as well as public school dental clinics, adult dental clinics, community health centres, prisons, Aboriginal dental services and residential care facilities.  Certificate IV is a natural progression from Certificate III and both contain many of the same units. Certificate IV also contains a radiography specialisation which is particularly useful to students in this field.
