This qualification reflects the role of an enrolled nurse working under supervision of a registered nurse. This qualification covers the application of skills and knowledge required to provide nursing care for people across the health sector. A lifespan approach should underpin this qualification with relevant competencies that relate to the different stages of life identified within the units. Successful completion of the Diploma of Nursing course enables students’ eligibility to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in accordance with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for registration as an Enrolled Nurse. The Diploma of Nursing has mandatory on and off the job training components. The off the job training is conducted as the theoretical component of the course. The on-the-job training is known as Clinical Placement and is unpaid work experience that is undertaken at a set time at the end of each term at a relevant health facility.
Minimum Age Requirement: Students must be 18 years, prior to attending their first Clinical Placement.
English Language Proficiency Requirements:
All applicants for the Diploma of Nursing are required to provide evidence of demonstrating your English language competency in one of the following ways:
English is your primary language and you have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country, including at least two years between years 7 and 12. Recognised country means one of the following countries: Australia; Canada; New Zealand; Republic of Ireland; South Africa; United Kingdom; United States of America.

If you do not satisfy any of the above, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the scores as below. English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study.

Mandatory Clinical Placement Requirements: As per CQU Immunisation Policy immunisation checks are now mandatory for any placement commencing 1 January 2018. Refer to the Clinical Placement Guidelines and Mandatory Checks Requirements for Clinical Placement for more details.
The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to be eligible to attend a WIL placement for this course. Students will be required to provide evidence of having completed a COVID-19 vaccination schedule by the closing date prior to a WIL placement. The vaccine received must be a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia.
Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.
Additional information
Students are required to successfully complete a minimum of 400 hours of Clinical Placement. Students must provide a Federal police check with no indictable offences, a clear Blue Card, and evidence of Immunisations against Flu, Hepatitis A&B, MMR, Pertussis, Varicella and Mantoux/TB.
VET Student Loans may be available for eligible students in approved Diploma level qualifications. The loan can be used towards Tuition Fees only and does not cover additional expenses such as textbooks, uniforms, equipment, travel, tools, and accommodation or general living expenses. Loan limits or caps may apply for some eligible courses and where a loan limit is reached for a course, students may be required to pay upfront for any remaining units.

On-Campus Requirements
Residential Schools
As this course is delivered through a
blended delivery method (Mixed Mode), students are required to undertake all
residential schools - four blocks of 3 days per term. These residential schools
are held from 8:30am - 3pm.
Mixed-Mode students are also required to
attend their weekly online tutorial classes which will be held each Monday and
Friday commencing from the 6th of February 2023.

Students completing internal classes at the
Rockhampton North campus will be required to attend the above residential
schools as well as weekly on-campus tutorials on Monday - Wednesday from 8:30am
- 3pm.

Computing Requirements
It is a requirement of enrolment in this
course that you have access to the CQUniversity website. You will be required
to undertake various components of study in the course using email, Microsoft
Teams and the internet.
It is strongly recommended that you have
access to a broadband connection or higher to access online resources that
would include but are not limited to, email, internet, video streaming,
electronic assessment submission.
All submissions of assessment must be
uploaded electronically to the VET Moodle platform.
English Language Proficiency
In order to be registered as a health
practitioner in Australia, you must be able to demonstrate that your English
language skills will enable you to safely practice your profession.
The English language skills registration standard is one of the five
core standards that practitioners are required to meet, under the National Law.
You can either:
• demonstrate you meet the standard through
the English Language Test Pathway or
• demonstrate you meet the standard through
the Extended Education Pathway if you have completed and can provide evidence
for at least five years (full-time equivalent) continuous education in English in
a recognised country

Clinical Placement Requirements
Throughout the duration of this course, all
students will undertake three placements, as follows:
Placement 1: Aged Care - This placement
will be held in the first stage for a duration of three (3) weeks (120 hours).
Placement 2: Community Care - This
placement will be held in the second stage for a duration of two (2) weeks (80
hours).
Placement 3: Acute Care - This placement
will be held in the third stage for a duration of five (5) weeks (200 hours).

Depending upon the capacity of the health
care providers/ facilities in the students' geographical area, students will be
expected to travel to an alternative location in order to complete their
prescribed clinical placement. Students will only be offered one placement per
student, per course, per term.
