Study Mode Definitions

  • Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus. Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically. Work integrated learning, including placements, may be included in some courses.
  • On-campus: Students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.
  • Mixed Mode: Students studying in mixed mode will participate in a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit. The additional site-specific learning activities are what differentiates a mixed-mode unit from an online unit.

*All study modes may include Vocational placement and/or work integrated learning.

Enrolment Information

Clusters of units are available for twenty-week blocks (enrolment periods) as illustrated on the diagram below.

Mandatory Requirements

Windows 11/10 PC capable of running Virtualisation software: This course includes specialisations in Advanced Networking and in Cyber Security. Vocational training requires students to be able to demonstrate practical hands-on skills in these areas of specialisation. You will need to setup Virtual servers on a suitable Windows Desktop/Laptop. Do not enrol unless you have access to the required computing facilities.

Video Interview (5-10 minutes): To maintain the integrity of assessment and hence protect your investment in doing this course, we will be using Video Interviews to verify the authenticity of the assessments you submit.  This will involve a short video interview where your instructor will ask you specific questions about one or more of the assessments you have already submitted. Students who participate actively in the weekly Zoom sessions may not need to do the video interview.

Weekly Zoom Sessions

The primary study mode for this course is external online however we want to touch base on a weekly basis. The main way we will do this is through weekly Zoom sessions. These sessions will incorporate some live teaching and participation in learning activities, and the opportunity to ask questions. All these sessions will be recorded and made available in Moodle (CQU’s Learning Management System). The days and times of these sessions are shown in Moodle.

Study Load

This course requires a considerable commitment to complete.

  • Carefully study the timeline below. In each of the three intakes there are two or three clusters available:
    - Each cluster is composed of either two or three units.
    - For each cluster the darker coloured area on the bar represents teaching weeks and the lighter coloured area show weeks set aside for students to work on assessments.
    - In the May and August intakes, teaching starts while units from the previous intake are still in the assessment phase.
    - You are responsible for managing your study load and meeting assessment deadlines.
  • Full-time study is 5 - 7 units simultaneously (two or three clusters) and requires 30+ hours per week of study. This allows completion of all 20 units over a period of about 12-18 months.
  • Part-time study is 2 - 3 units simultaneously (one cluster) and requires 10 - 15 hours per week of study. This allows completion of all 20 units over a period of at least 2 years.
