Course Summary

This online Short Course explores healthy sexuality in children from 0-9 years and behaviours that are typical and age appropriate.

The social and cultural context of the sexuality of minority youth including Indigenous Australians, LGBTIQ youth, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children with mental or physical disabilities and children in care are also extensively considered, as it is vital to examine differing understandings and experiences of sexuality in these contexts. Risk and protective factors that are specific to these minority groups will also be considered.

The fee for this short course will be $495.00.

This course provides Professional Development for those with a professional interest in children and young people, such as those in the fields of health, education and child protection.

Undertaking this course enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded 100 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours and a co-branded TRUE and CQUniversity Certificate of Completion.

Course Learning Outcomes
  1. Critically engage with contemporary interdisciplinary approaches to sexuality studies
  2. Situate understandings of sexuality within a social justice and human rights framework that recognises the importance of sexual ethics, sexual rights, sexual health and sexual education
  3. Demonstrate expertise in understanding healthy sexual development and sexual behaviours and in applying the TLF framework to an extensive range of sexual behaviours displayed by children and young people
  4. Demonstrate a strong understanding of best practice approaches to responding to sexual risk, sexual abuse disclosure or signs of sexual abuse
  5. Critically evaluate the benefits and risks that technology poses to the healthy sexual development and the safety of children and young people
  6. Demonstrate a strong understanding of the needs of minority youth with regards to sexuality and gender identity, and the unique barriers that they face.
