Course Summary

This online Short Course has been designed to complement the work delivered by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) to focus on developing teacher confidence, capability and expertise in the key concepts and topics covered in the Digital Solutions syllabus. It offers subject-specific knowledge and skills needed to underpin effective and contemporary approaches to teaching and learning in the subject.

This course expands on the problem-solving process for Digital Solutions through an iterative technical analysis represented as a visual map. It depicts the four distinct phases of the process from identified problem to recommended solution by exploring user experiences and interfaces. This course will provide the skills and resources to create algorithms for use in everyday life. In addition, participants will address a programming language (free choice) with which to experiment.

The fee for this short course will be $100.00.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements to enrol in this short course, however, it is designed for Secondary School teachers who expect to teach the QCAA Digital Solutions General Senior Syllabus.

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

This course provides Professional Development for Secondary School teachers in Queensland who would like to complete studies in a flexible and self-paced environment to gain digital solutions insights to inform teaching practices.

Undertaking this course enables teachers to meet Continuing Professional Development obligations for registration. Upon successful completion of the course, teachers will be awarded 12 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours and a CQUniversity Certificate of Completion.

Study Mode Definitions

  • Mixed Mode courses are delivered online and require compulsory attendance of site-specific learning activities such as on-campus residential schools and/or workshops.
  • Online courses are delivered using online resources only.
  • On-campus courses are delivered using a combination of face-to-face and video conferencing style teaching at CQUniversity campuses.

*All study modes may include Vocational placement and/or work integrated learning.

Course Learning Outcomes
  1. Explore the computational thinking process needed to construct a digital solution
  2. Understand the principles of usability in terms of user experience (UX) and user interfaces (UI)
  3. Construct pseudo-code for an everyday activity to be used in a digital environment such as an app
  4. Identify how to rewrite pseudo-code in a programmable language of your choice for an everyday activity.
