This online Short Course will examine the issue of conflict and effective management as a key competence in workplace relationships. It is important to understand that organisations can be conflict resilient and what managers’ responsibilities are in this regard. The focus of attention will be on key elements of conflict in the workplace and how to manage them effectively. When we are faced with conflict, whether or not we are directly involved, we will experience emotions. Emotions influence actions and may stand in the way of effective conflict management. Developing skills in conflict competence that involve cognitive, emotional and behavioural components is imperative, given that conflict in the workplace is inevitable. Therefore, for us to be able to engage in effective conflict resolution, we need to be able to demonstrate effective conflict competence.
