Course Summary

This online Short Course will discuss conflict and dispute resolution strategies for leaders and managers in the business setting. Beginning with an investigation into the nature of workplace conflict, you will explore the intricate dynamics of antagonism that may arise among co-workers and identify the causes of such conflicts. The importance of conflict management to the harmonious and productive operations of the workplace will be emphasised with an exploration of a number of theoretical models that explain the dynamics of argumentation, conflict escalation and workplace relationships.

Students who successfully complete the set of seven Short Courses* developed from the unit BUSN20024 Communication for Leadership Success, (which forms part of the Master of Business Administration (Leadership) CL39), may be eligible for credit transfer, pending all other entry requirements to the Master of Business Administration (Leadership) CL39 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.

Course Learning Outcomes
  1. Outline the intricate dynamics of antagonism that may arise among co-workers and the causes of such conflicts
  2. Identify strategies to manage disputes and disagreements within the workplace
  3. Describe the importance of conflict management to the harmonious and productive operations of the workplace
  4. Outline the harmful impact of lying and deception to businesses including financial fraud and criminal prosecution
  5. Identify the six key strategies used to detect dishonest behaviour
  6. Explore a number of models that seek to explain the dynamics of conflict including Toulmin's model of argumentation, the model of conflict escalation and Knapp's relationship model.
