Academic communication skills are essential for students. This online micro-credential will guide you through the process of writing an academic essay. You will be introduced to the culture of academic writing at university and the common features of academic essays. You will develop strategies to read, evaluate and summarise information, and then use that information to develop and support an academic argument. Throughout this micro-credential, you will develop critical thinking, note-making, formal writing and referencing skills necessary for academic writing.
Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Fundamental Essay Writing set of 6 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.
To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:
1. Starting an Academic Essay
2. Structuring an Academic Essay
3. Avoiding Plagiarism
4. Referencing and Citing
5. Using Academic Language and Style
6. Fundamentals of Essay Writing: Assessment Module.
Our micro-credentials are available for anyone to access. You do not have to be a CQUniversity student.

Students who successfully complete the set of 6 micro-credentials* developed from the unit LNGE40049 Essay Writing for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for exemption, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.
