Course Summary

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals who perform mainly routine tasks and procedures, using limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge, and taking some responsibility for the quality of the work outcomes. Participants will learn the basics of health and safety, risk management, communication, planning and preparing to undertake a task, hand and power tool operation, measurements and calculations.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements. It is recommended that students have a sound knowledge of Year 10 Maths and English.

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

  1. Students will receive a Result of Assessment within 21 days of completion of each unit/module or within 21 days of the ‘close of study’ date.
  2. Students who successfully complete all required units/modules will receive their qualification and an Academic Statement itemising all units/modules successfully completed.
  3. Following receipt of written advice from the student (or teacher) that the student does not intend to complete the full course, the student will be issued with a Statement of Attainment listing all units/modules successfully completed.

This course is a pathway qualification and will prepare you to undertake a Certificate III level course from the resources and infrastructure industry.

Resource Requirements

Students are required to supply their own personal protective equipment as required including appropriate clothing and footwear.


Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required:

  • Safety glasses
  • Ear plugs
  • Steel capped boots

Students will also need to bring a notebook and pen to any on-campus classes.


Practical Placement Information

Student's studying by Distance Education will need to undertake a practical placement. 


Practical components will be assessed based on school visits and a practical portfolio of work completed at school.
