Study Mode Definitions

  • Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus. Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically. Work integrated learning, including placements, may be included in some courses.
  • On-campus: Students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.
  • Mixed Mode: Students studying in mixed mode will participate in a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit. The additional site-specific learning activities are what differentiates a mixed-mode unit from an online unit.

*All study modes may include Vocational placement and/or work integrated learning.

Start TAFE Now (STN)- Longreach State High School (Continuing only)

This course is typically delivered over 40-weeks (part time). However, as it is competency based, it may be possible for learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level.  The time allocation for this program may also include the clustering of units of competency for delivery which allows similar or complementary content items to be delivered at the same time thus reducing duplication in content covered and therefore reducing time required. The existing skills, knowledge and experience of learners will also be taken into consideration of amount of training required for this program cohort. Credit transfer for units previously completed at a nationally recognised training organisation may also reduce the time of this program.

The delivery mode will be face to face delivery on site at Trinity College. Work simulation and tasks will be undertaken to confirm competency.  The recommended time allocation for on campus study in this program is as follows.

SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality

The rationale for this time allocation is:

•  Self-paced study = 260 hours (6.5 hours per week)
•  Assessment Preparation = 80 hours (2 hours per week)
• Classroom Training = 320 hours (8 hours per week)
• Assessment = 160 (4 hours per week)

= Total: 820 hours

All students have access to teachers in class and also via email.

Allocation of non-supervised time enables the student to work at their own pace to complete online learning.

Students are provided with learning and assessment materials through Moodle.
