This is a qualification for a person who undertakes a rail safety investigation within the rail industry in accordance with regulator, rail industry standards, rules and operational procedures. This vocational qualification is recognised by regulatory, investigation and rail organisations nationally. This course will cover topics such as Rail Safety Law, Legislation, Acts & Regulations, Site Investigation, Gathering, recording & managing evidence, reporting progress of investigations, an understanding of Safety Management Systems and Rail Safety Investigation Principles and types of Rail Safety Occurrences, Notification and Categorisation. Students will have the opportunity to map scenes, interview witnesses, photograph the scene, collect evidence and carry out tests on rolling stock, signalling and track in an operating railway environment located at the CQUniversity Bundaberg Crash lab.

Residential School Information
Students will be required to wear suitable attire when attending the residential school, such as:
Students will be required to access rail track environments for the completion of some assessment tasks and activities that require adequate mobility in these environments.
Resource Requirements
All training and assessment materials are made available online through Moodle. Students will be contacted and provided access to the online environment after enrolment.
Study Sequence
Students enrol in the first part of the TLI40115 Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation qualification as a stand-alone short course. This is titled 'ACC00095 Fundamentals of Rail Safety Investigation’ and is the first part of TLI40115 Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation. Students enrolling in the Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation are required to complete this body of pre-work by distance, prior to attending the one week residential school and then complete post residential school work to meet all the requirements of the Certificate IV.
