Course Structures

In order to complete this course, you must:

  1. Complete 25 core units
  2. Complete 4 elective units

Study Mode Definitions

  • Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus. Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically. Work integrated learning, including placements, may be included in some courses.
  • On-campus: Students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.
  • Mixed Mode: Students studying in mixed mode will participate in a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit. The additional site-specific learning activities are what differentiates a mixed-mode unit from an online unit.

*All study modes may include Vocational placement and/or work integrated learning.

Standard Course Structure

To achieve the Certificate lll in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration 29 units must be completed comprising of 25 core units and 4 elective Trade stream units which equals 1070 points.

The minimum required for achievement of the Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Trade are:

  • Completion of all core units of competency listed - total of 1000 points
  • Completion of Group A Imported and Common elective units to the value of at least 0 to a maximum of 30 points
  • Completion of Group B Qualification Elective units to the valve of at least 30 points bring the total value to 1060 points

Imported units from other training packages and/or state accredited courses can be added to this group but they must be selected from qualifications where the unit is first packaged at AQF level 3. If units have not been assigned a weighting by the relevant EE-Oz Industry Technical Advisory Committee, their weighting will be 10 points.

Pre-requisite pathways shall be identified and met for all elective units selected.

Face to face delivery consisting of 21.5 weeks over 4 years and on the job training supplied by employers to complement the formal training at CQU.

This program is typically delivered in blocks/stages relevant to the apprenticeship and as such is delivered over a four year period to align to the apprenticeship stages.

However, as it is competency-based it may be possible for apprentices/learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level.
