The Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry) aims to provide Australian Registered Nurses with the theoretical, practical and research knowledge required to be competent and effective Registered Midwives. On successful completion of the Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry), you will be eligible to apply for registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Emphasis throughout the course is on the progressive development of a woman-centred approach to midwifery practice underpinned by evidence informed practice and collaborative partnerships founded in primary health care principles.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry) will be able to work as a Registered Midwife in a variety of health care settings including private practice.

Applicants must be registered with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a registered nurse in order to undertake the course. Applicants are also required to have an undergraduate degree for acceptance into the course. Recognition of prior learning will be assessed on a case by case basis.
CK30 Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry) students must hold a current and valid registered nursing licence with AHPRA to be considered for entry into the course and ongoing enrolment in the degree. It is a course requirement that all students maintain their AHPRA nursing registration for the duration of the course. Students must immediately report any professional investigations into their nursing practice and employment, and/or any restriction or suspension of their AHPRA registration to CQUniversity.

· Mandatory checks documentation must be uploaded to the CQU Placement System ‘SONIA’ by the closing date. These will then be reviewed by our Work Integrated Learning Team.
· You will not be able to access SONIA until enrolled in your first term units.
· Should mandatory checks be outstanding or expired clinical placement is terminated.
· Failure to meet the mandatory check requirements by the due date will result in you being unable to attend residential school and ineligible to commence clinical placement, therefore you will need to withdraw from the course.

Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry) students are required to be registered nurses with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have an undergraduate degree for acceptance into the course.
The Head of Course will confirm that the prospective student has been accepted by a clinical facility which meets ANMAC requirements for placements as a student midwife.
Student numbers will be capped to ensure that clinical places can be provided and to enable students to achieve minimal student requirements, for example, accoucher 30 births.

Mandatory
Pre-Clinical Requirements:
Mandatory checks/Pre-clinical requirements are required by hospitals, both public and private. Mandatory checks are important to protect you both medically and legally. Please note, CQUniversity requires a set list of mandatory checks. Mandatory checks/pre-clinical requirements are due by January 31 in the year of commencement. You cannot start residential school without mandatory checks, no exceptions. All mandatory checks must be submitted through SONIA. What is SONIA? SONIA is an online program where you must upload all of your mandatory checks. Once all of your checks are uploaded please email midwiferyclplacements@cqu.edu.au and CQU staff will check that your documents are correct.

Residential Schools
Please note that at times residential school dates may be scheduled prior to the confirmation of grades for the previous semester. In order for students to attend residential school a passing grade must be achieved for the prior term. Students who have failed the previous terms unit are not eligible attend residential school. Students who are at risk of failing or have a grade of Practicum Outstanding (PO) may attend residential however they will be liable for all costs of travel and accommodation should they attend residential school but then fail. If you are concerned that you may fail units in the Bachelor Of Midwifery (graduate entry) program and are unsure about whether you are eligible to attend residential school please contact Bridget Ferguson, the Head of Midwifery, to discuss prior to booking flights or accommodation.
Deferment and Leave of Absence
The Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry) does not currently offer a deferment and/or Leave of Absence (LOA).
In exceptional circumstances, a request for Deferral or a break in studies (Leave of Absence) may be considered by the CK30 Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry) Head of Course on an individual case-by-case basis. Approvals will remain at the discretion of the Head of Course.
