Course Overview

The Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Professional Communication is a double degree. The course is designed to meet diverse careers in business, management, public relations, and communication professions. The course will provide you the opportunity to expand your career choices beyond business management. The business component of the course will enable you to apply knowledge related to management, finance, accounting, marketing, social innovation and human resources in different workplace contexts. The professional communication component of the course is practically-oriented and focuses on workplace relevance for future public relations and journalism practitioners. In the professional communication course, you will attain a unique blend of public relations and journalism theory and practice and also core communication practice skills, such as writing, speech, photography and introductory graphic design.

Career Information

Graduates with a dual degree have access to other career possibilities outside their primary discipline and are highly attractive to potential employers. Career options for graduates of the Bachelor of Business (Specialisation)/Bachelor of Professional Communication are as a public relations officer, human resource officer, business manager, government administrator, media and marketing officer, promotions and publicity officer, advertiser, journalist, management consultant, or marketing manager.

Number of Units Required CQUniversity uses the concept of credits to express the amount of study required for a particular course and individual units. The number of units varies between courses. Units in undergraduate courses normally consist of 6 points of credit or multiples thereof (e.g. 12, 18, 24).
Expected Hours of Study One point of credit is equivalent to an expectation of approximately two hours of student work per week in a term.

Business Majors: Accreditation & Membership

The Financial Planning major is accredited by the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA).

Marketing graduates may be eligible for membership of the Australian Marketing Institute and the Australian Market and Social Research Society.

Management graduates may be eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Management.

The Property major is accredited by the Australian Property Institute (API). Graduates are eligible for associate membership and the course is endorsed as supplying the education requirements for certification as a Certified Property Practitioner. Please refer to the Australian Property Institute website for more information http://www.api.org.au/. Graduates may also seek registration with the Valuers Registration Board.

Please note: completion of this major will not provide students with the relevant qualification to be certified with the API as a Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) nor will it make students eligible for registration with the Valuers Registration Board in Queensland (other states may vary, please refer to individual state bodies if residing outside of Queensland). Students wishing to become registered valuers should enrol in CF56 Bachelor of Property.
