The Master of Medical Ultrasound provides the opportunity for qualified medical sonographers and echocardiographers to undertake professional development in the form of a coursework masters in Medical Ultrasound. This course is a natural top-up qualification to the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography or Graduate Diploma of Echocardiography (or equivalent), enabling study in the areas of advanced clinical practice and/or study to broaden knowledge in related fields. Areas designed to broaden knowledge include units in advanced communication, management, and research; whilst advanced clinical practice units include advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound upper body, advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound lower body, advanced obstetric ultrasound, advanced vascular ultrasound, advanced paediatric ultrasound, advanced imaging of congenital heart disease and fetal echocardiography. Theoretical content will be provided by flexible learning with opportunities in some units to attend practical workshops.This course is recognised for the purpose of continuing professional development by the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR).
In the Master of Medical Ultrasound students will undertake units in advanced practice or specialisations of their choice. This will see graduates enhancing their career advancement opportunities as specialists in their chosen area and being highly employable in their field of expertise across both the private and public sectors.

Students must choose MEDS21003 Medical Science Research Project 1 as one of their four options if they have not passed a course in research as part of their Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography or Graduate Diploma in Echocardiography.
Credit can not be obtained for any unit which formed part of either the prerequisite Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography or the prerequisite Graduate Diploma of Echocardiography. The student must have completed eight (8) postgraduate units as part of their graduate diploma AND will choose an additional four (4) units from within the Master of Medical Ultrasound unit options.
