General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit will introduce you to the fascinating emerging technologies and processes around the industry automation. In this unit you will learn about how businesses worldwide are automating their operations through 4.0 and 5.0 technologies to manage their just in time manufacturing, and supply chain operations. This unit will give you an opportunity to explore how Industry 4.0 and 5.0 technologies help companies to become customer-centric and optimise operational efficiency in terms of saving costs, staying competitive and remaining profitable in the global marketplace.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Unit learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. Explain Industry 4.0 and 5.0 and its use in business
  2. Investigate business requirements and recommend relevant Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 tools and processes to improve business efficiency
  3. Explain social and ethical implications of Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0.

This unit is aligned with the skillset outlined by the Skills Framework for Information Age (SFIA). SFIA is a skills framework widely adapted by public and private institutions around the world. It defines the skills and competencies required by business and technology professionals working in digital technologies and/or solutions that involves a mix of technical and non-technical skills.

This unit encompasses following four workplace skillsets as defined by SFIA 8:

  • Business situation analysis (BUSA) -  Investigating business situations to define recommendations for improvement action.
  • Requirements definition and management (REQM) - Managing requirements through the entire delivery and operational life cycle.
  • Emerging technology monitoring (EMRG) -  Identifying and assessing new and emerging technologies, products, services, methods and techniques.
  • Research (RSCH) - Systematically creating new knowledge by data gathering, innovation, experimentation, evaluation and dissemination.
