ENEP20002 - Continuing Professional Development for Engineering Masters Students

General Information

Unit Synopsis

Continuing professional development (CPD) is an essential activity for any practicing engineer. Engineers and other professionals engage in CPD for a variety of reasons including staying up-to-date with current developments in their discipline, professional networking, and facilitating career progression. In this unit, you will demonstrate your commitment to CPD by undertaking and recording professional practice exposure. You will reflect on what you have learned from professional practice activities and you will develop a strategic approach to personal and professional growth in the workplace.

Students must have completed minimum 48uc in CV82 Master of Engineering before they enrol in this unit.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Students were confused about how the 480 hours of internship requirements would be met.
Recommendation
Students should be informed clearly during the lecture class and repeatedly in the discussion forum on how to present evidence for the 480 hours of internship.
Action Taken
The key action items were implemented during workshops, via Moodle messages, and by email. Key actions included: Delivering a dedicated workshop briefing on how to present evidence for the 480-hour internship, with reminders at key milestones (start of term and prior to submission). Publishing a concise Evidence Guide containing step-by-step instructions, a checklist, and a template. Offering Q&A support through the discussion forum and monitoring submissions to ensure students receive timely clarification.
