Unit Synopsis

In this unit, students will examine the business drivers and operations strategy that impact on the maintenance decision-making framework. They explain the internal and external influences on the development of maintenance strategy. They also define maintenance objectives and develop maintenance planning and control strategies.

Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback
The format of the print ready learning guides needs to be reviewed as diagrams and text fonts are inconsistent which makes printing difficult. Some weblinks in the learning guides are broken.
Recommendation
The format of the print ready learning guides will be reviewed and amended as needed to ensure they print correctly. All embedded weblinks will be checked.
Action Taken
The print learning guides were reviewed, refreshed and reformatted. Student evaluation data for learning resources indicated students were satisfied with the improvements.

Feedback
It is sometimes necessary to move between various modules in Moodle. It is difficult to go between modules in the current Moodle format.
Recommendation
The Moodle layout is changing to a tile format. It is hoped that the new format will make navigating between blocks easier.

The new tile Moodle layout was implemented. Student evaluation data for learning resources indicated students were satisfied with the improvements.

Feedback
The learning materials and assessments are heavily focussed on the resources sector. Students from other industries found the assessments difficult to understand.
Recommendation
The resources and assignment questions will be reviewed and revised to increase the relevance to a range of industry sectors.
Action Taken
Resources and assignment questions were reviewed and revised. Student evaluation data for learning resources indicated students were more satisfied with the resources and assessments. However, several students indicated they still felt there was too much emphasis on the production/ manufacturing industries.

Student evaluations for assessment feedback have fallen.
Recommendation
Marking criteria sheets for all assessments will be reviewed.
Action Taken
Marking criteria sheets were reviewed and updated. Following the update, student evaluations indicated students were more satisfied with the feedback provided.

Students appreciated the knowledgeable and experienced industry lecturer and the relevance of the unit content.
Recommendation
Continue delivery of the unit by an experienced industry practitioner in order to ensure content is contemporary and relevant.

Although the content has been reviewed in an effort to make it more relevant to a range of industries, some students commented that they felt the unit was still too focused on production processes and manufacturing.
Recommendation
Resources, case studies and assessment questions should be reviewed again to improve relevance to a broad range of industries.
