Unit Synopsis

This unit focuses on leadership characteristics and management practices for asset management in an organisation. You will learn about various leadership theories and how they influence leadership effectiveness, as well as the operational requirements for leading a team of asset management professionals. The leadership and management skills you develop in this unit will enable you to meet organisation goals and objectives.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback
From all the subject this has been the best one. The lectures were easy to understand as has the tutorial. My only negative is the slight difference in requirements.
Recommendation
The quality will be maintained, and lecturers and tutors will be asked to keep consulting each other.

While the quality of the contents was maintained, the lecturer and tutor was the same in T2 2022 for improved consistency in requirements.

With a personal point of view the online lecture timing was not suitable for me. Content was good.
Recommendation
Due to students' locations in different time zones around the world, it is impossible to choose a class time that suits the whole class. However, the lecturer and tutor will be advised to look into this matter and fine-tune the time to satisfy the maximum number of students in the class.
Action Taken
The teaching team advised the lecturer and tutor to contact students early in the term to discuss preferred class times. Recordings were also regularly made available to ensure students across different time zones, especially those balancing work and study, could easily access them.

Feedback
The alignment between the course material and the assigned assessments was inconsistent. This issue does not reflect on the lecturer, who demonstrated strong teaching capabilities. Rather, the course content appeared outdated and lacked comprehensive coverage of the topics necessary to successfully complete the assignments.
Recommendation
The teaching team will review and evaluate any identified gaps in the course material and update it if needed. The assessment design will also be tweaked to better align with the course content. To keep the content fresh, we’ll add modern case studies to better contextualise leadership theories for today’s world. Ahead of the next term, we’ll closely check the alignment between course materials and assessments. Any gaps will be fixed with updated slides, clearer mapping, and a refreshed reading list. These changes will be reviewed and assessed in the next AUER.

Need to link assessments with recent industry case studies
Recommendation
The teaching team will take a close look at the current assessment design and make updates as needed, incorporating recent case studies and real-world examples. This will strengthen the theoretical content and provide students with practical context for applying leadership concepts in today’s industry settings.
