Showing: 2026 HE Term 1
General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit builds on your foundational knowledge to deepen your understanding of the physiological, psychological, and social aspects of labour, birth, and the postnatal period. You will explore each of the stages of labour, and you will strengthen your ability to provide maternal care and make informed clinical decisions during childbirth. You will also examine breastfeeding as a culturally and emotionally complex practice, supported by legal and ethical principles, as well as the importance of continuity of care beyond discharge. You will engage with broader topics such as child and family health, sexual health, and contraception to ensure you are prepared to deliver comprehensive, evidence-informed care across the childbearing continuum.
