NURS28010 - Advanced Health Assessment, Diagnostics and Interventions

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit provides students with the principles of advanced knowledge and clinical skills to conduct comprehensive health assessments, differentiate abnormal from normal assessment findings, make evidence-informed diagnoses, and develop management plans specific to individual’s health needs. You will integrate the principles of advanced anatomy and physiology while undertaking comprehensive systematic health assessments using a designated health assessment framework. You will learn to synthesise your assessment findings to make evidence-informed person-centred diagnoses that incorporate the principles of disease pathophysiology. This unit will expand your knowledge of clinical and diagnostic reasoning and enable you to develop advanced communication skills to collaboratively advocate for individual’s and communities’ health outcomes in diverse healthcare settings. In this unit, you will work through online modules and real-world case studies in preparation for integrated professional practice. In developing your advanced practice capability as a nurse practitioner, you will undertake 40 hours of supernumerary integrated professional practice under the supervision of your mentor/clinical support team in your clinical healthcare setting to observe, conduct and develop advanced clinical and assessment skills, perform and interpret diagnostic investigations, and evaluate findings to lead to person-centred, culturally safe diagnoses and consumer-focused management plans. Due to the nature of consumer presentations in healthcare settings, some integrated professional practice hours may occur outside standard term dates. Students must be enrolled in the Master of Nurse Practitioner course to undertake this unit.

International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
