This unit enables the nurse practitioner candidate to apply advanced theoretical knowledge into integrated professional practice. By applying and integrating theory and research evidence, you will develop your advanced knowledge and clinical skills in the contexts of comprehensive consumer health assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and the quality use of medicines. You will develop culturally safe, collaborative plans of care involving consumers, families, communities and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. You will apply models of care to coordinate continuity of care, focusing on the principles of primary healthcare, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and vulnerable populations to improve health access and outcomes for consumers in diverse healthcare settings. In this unit, you will work through online modules and real-world case studies in preparation for integrated professional practice. In developing your advanced practice capability as a nurse practitioner, you will undertake 150 hours of supernumerary integrated professional practice under the supervision of your mentor/clinical support team. This unit builds upon the Foundation of Nurse Practitioner Practice, Advanced Health Assessment, Diagnostic and Interventions, and Advanced Practice Pharmacology 1 units to enable you to apply the theoretical and practical skills as you develop your nurse practitioner capabilities. Due to the nature of consumer presentations in healthcare settings, some integrated professional practice hours may occur outside standard term dates. Students must be enrolled in the Master of Nurse Practitioner course to undertake this unit.
