Unit Synopsis
This unit, which is a sequel to ORAL12002 Oral Health Pre-Clinical Practice 1, reinforces skills learnt previously as well as developing new restorative skills and techniques in the primary dentition. You will apply knowledge and demonstrate skills in the preventive and operative management of dental caries including extractions, pulpotomies, stainless steel crowns and strip crowns in the primary dentition. On completion of this unit, you will demonstrate proficiency in the administration of local anaesthesia for child and adult patients. You will communicate information regarding oral health in oral and written forms in terms of relevant interpersonal / team communication skills, professional attitudes and ethical behaviours.

Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

The oral presentation assessment should be revised to provide a more meaningful assessment task.
It is recommended to revise the oral assessment to a different type of assessment task.
The oral presentation has been revised to a written task incorporating the use of AI in dentistry.

Some students felt that 70% weighting for one assessment was too much.
It is recommend to revise assessment weightings.
This assessment piece was broken down into 2 x 35% tasks to allow for mid-term feedback.

The AI assignment was interesting, however the learning outcomes were somewhat already known to students prior to the assessment piece.
It is recommended to review the AI assessment task to ensure a suitable level of content and learning.

The students liked that the In-class tests are run in two halves (Part A & B) rather than one big examination.
It is recommended to retain the in-class tests as Part A and Part B.

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
