Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Online Quiz(zes) 20%
2. Written Assessment 30%
3. On-campus Activity 0%
4. Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) 50%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Verbal feedback
Feedback
The students noted the improvements made to the Practical Workbook and how these changes provided a more streamlined and straightforward resource for them to prepare for their practical assessments, but students would like additional content to support preparation for the theoretical assessments.
Recommendation
It is recommended that additional changes be made to the workbook to include preparation activities specific to the In-Class tests, such as reflective questions and short clinical case studies.
Action Taken
The unit workbook was updated in 2025 to include additional case studies, and more clarity was given to specific clinical tasks regarding assessment and treatment.
Source: SUTE Teacher Report
Feedback
Students reported it was often difficult to maintain engagement throughout the lecture as there was often not a lot of explanations outside of what was written on the slides.
Recommendation
It is recommended that more case studies and clinical anecdote regarding real patient experiences be added to the lectures where able.

Source: SUTE Unit Comments Report
Feedback
Students expressed concerns regarding the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) citing that they felt there were discrepancies between examiners.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the format of the OSCE examinations be reviewed to ensure consistency in questioning between examiners.

Source: In Class verbal feedback
Feedback
Students reported that some of the images within the workbook fail to capture the complexity of certain orthopedic tests.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the unit coordinator reviews the workbook images and provide several images in sequence rather than individual images for more complex orthopedic tests.
