Unit Synopsis

This unit is part of the sequence of units that culminates in the degree of Master in Clinical Psychology. As a follow-up to the Clinic Team I unit, this unit is intended to provide additional basic, supervised practice skills necessary for working as a Clinical Psychologist.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Feedback:
One student indicated that the large workload and time pressures impacted their consolidation of learning and their formulation of opinions and recommendations in client reports.

Recommendation:
Continue to review student workload to focus on consolidating knowledge to inform clinical opinions and recommendations for interventions.

Action Taken:
Student workload was reviewed, and a guidance document was written to support students in consolidating their report-writing skills.

Students indicated that it was useful to discuss assessments and to see demonstrations of assessment administration.

Recommendation:
Continue to demonstrate the administration of tests during class time.

Lecturers provided access to video-recorded training resources to assist students to learn assessment administration.

Students requested amendments to the Log of Hours to reduce errors

Recommendation:
Recommend that the Log of Hours be updated to a format the adds up the progressive hours, to reduce user errors.

Feedback:
Students request more formal teaching time to assist them to learn the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT)

Recommendation:
Recommend some dedicated sessions in the Intensive Training block to cover the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT) administration and scoring, and encourage students to access individual supervision to assist with interpretation.
