SPCH14005 - Speech Pathology Skills and Practice 6

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This course is the final clinical placement and students will required to demonstrate Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASS®) ‘Entry level’ competence on completion. Students will apply knowledge gained across the program in this final placement within a workplace. This course will further facilitate students’ understanding and application of client management, through practical experience with clients presenting with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties. This course is designed to prepare students for their entry in to the workplace and they will be required to complete a speech pathology job application.

Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

  1. Demonstrate entry level practical skills as assessed by COMPASS® Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology tool.
  2. Complete an application for speech pathology position addressing given selection criteria.
  3. Apply models of service delivery in a range of workplaces.
  4. Incorporate into practice the major concepts of ethics and develop strategies for dealing with ethical issues arising in clinical practice.
  5. Identify factors that may contribute to sustainability in the workplace.
  6. Reflect on Competency Based Occupational Standards (CBOS) in their professional development and how they have achieved these qualities across the speech pathology program.
