The 'ACC00095 Fundamentals of Rail Safety Investigation' is a one week residential course at the CQUniversity Bundaberg Crash Lab and forms the first part of the qualification 'TLI401215 Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation'. Unique access to Australia’s smallest registered operating railway provides students with the opportunity to carry out tests on rolling stock, signalling and track. Students will also have the opportunity to: • map scenes • interview witnesses • photograph the scene • collect evidence, and • provide an interim investigation report This face to face course is delivered by experienced rail safety investigators and include state of the art techniques in rail investigation. Students must enrol in ACC00095 Fundamentals of Rail Safety Investigation at least two weeks prior to the commencement of the residential course and complete some pre-course work in preparation for the residential course.

Students completing this short course should be able to assist with a rail investigation as a team member. The course ACC00095 Fundamentals of Rail Safety Investigation is available either as a stand-alone short course, or as the first part of the TLI40115 Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation. Upon successful completion of this accredited short course students will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units: • TLIB3118 Apply awareness of railway fundamentals • TLIF3083 Conduct track protection assessment • TLIF4100 Identify and meet rail safety regulatory compliance requirements • TLIB4042 Conduct inspection of Safe working procedures and infrastructure • BSBRSK401 Identify risk and apply risk management processes Completion of TLI40115 Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation will require enrolment in the remaining 13 units of competency after the completion of the ACC00095 Fundamentals of Rail Safety Investigation short course. On completion of the qualification, opportunities may be sought to work in Rail Safety Investigation teams.

Students can enrol in the first part of the qualification, TLI40115 Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation, as a stand-alone short course. This is titled ‘ACC00095 Fundamentals of Rail Safety Investigation’ and is the first part of the TLI40115 Certificate IV in Rail Safety Investigation. Students enrolling in ACC00095 Fundamentals of Rail Safety Investigation are required to complete a body of pre-work by distance, prior to attending the one week residential school.

Residential School Information
Students will be required to access rail track environments for the completion of some assessment tasks and activities that require adequate mobility in these environments.
Students will be required to wear suitable attire when attending the residential school (high visibility shirt, long trousers, steel capped safety boots, safety glasses and hard hat).
All Residential Schools for 2020 are currently deferred. Teachers will be in contact with current students to discuss their options.

All training and assessment materials are made available on-line. Students will be contacted and provided access to the online environment after enrolment.
