Study Mode Definitions

  • Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus. Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically. Work integrated learning, including placements, may be included in some courses.
  • On-campus: Students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.
  • Mixed Mode: Students studying in mixed mode will participate in a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit. The additional site-specific learning activities are what differentiates a mixed-mode unit from an online unit.

*All study modes may include Vocational placement and/or work integrated learning.

TRAINEES (USER CHOICE) - EARLY CHILDHOOD

This qualification will be delivered via our online platform, Moodle, for a period of 24 weeks.

Time efficiency will be achieved through using a clustered unit delivery model; 9 units of competency will be delivered in  5 clusters. This has led to a reduced course duration through clustering units of competency together according to their common work function, skills and knowledge that improves delivery and assessment practices and eliminates repetition.

It is possible for students to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level.

The volume of learning within the program includes access to a Teacher, Zoom sessions, library and research time and vocational placement within industry. Students are advised to attend vocational placement weekly.

The course is organised to reflect the learning and work activities that take place within a range of education settings, including public and independent schools and community education services.

The application of knowledge is assessed in other components of the course that focus on specific work activities. These comprise of assessment tasks, projects, case studies and third party verification which includes a period of vocational placement during which time students are able to practice and transfer their skills in live work situations.

In this case, participants must successfully complete all components of the course to be deemed competent.

This is done so that candidates are provided with background information and the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge in work similar environments.

This is supported through a combination of individual appointments, workplace visits for theory and practical sessions involving small group and individual activities and/or telephone, email and Zoom sessions discussions.

Zoom is provided weekly excluding Queensland School Holiday periods. Students are able to access a teacher during these times to assist and guide them with their studies.
