Course Overview

This course provides you with the opportunity to extend your understanding of project management by establishing a deep foundation knowledge base of the theoretical principles as well as the practical application of project management. The course consists of coursework that explores the principles of project management as based on recognised international standards, guidelines and frameworks. Examples of different project domains are explored through case studies. Each case study enables you to explore the application of project management closely aligned to your chosen career path. The course develops technical skills in the initiation, bidding, tendering, planning, design, procurement, execution, reporting, commissioning, hand over, and post project support of projects. Human skills in stakeholder management, communication, team building, negotiation, and the avocation of ongoing professional career development are integrated into the coursework material and assessments. Finally, the systems perspectives of project and program management are investigated with respect to the applications systems, information, and knowledge that is required to achieve effective project, program and portfolio management in modern organisations.

Number of Units Required CQUniversity uses the concept of credits to express the amount of study required for a particular course and individual units. The number of units varies between courses. Units in postgraduate courses normally consist of 6 points of credit or multiples thereof (e.g. 12, 18, 24).
Expected Hours of Study One point of credit is equivalent to an expectation of approximately two hours of student work per week in a term.

Professional Accreditation

This is a new course and accreditation process with the Project Management Institute (PMI) is in progress. CQUniversity's postgraduate project management courses have been designed to develop graduates who will be eligible for membership with the Project Management Institute and it is expected that accreditation will be finalised in early 2020. More details will be available on the CQUniversity student handbook when finalised. For eligibility concerning membership, please refer to the Project Management Institute official website.

Students can select one unit from the two optional units listed below. Students who intend to continue their studies in the Master of Project Management course (CV84) are highly encouraged to consider taking Project Management Research Proposal unit (PPMP20015) which is a core unit in the master's course in order to enrol smoothly in the second year of the master course.
