Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Verbal feedback; formal evaluation responses
Feedback
Assessment 1 identified as onerous, being 3 forum posts on three different topics - a lot of research and work required
Recommendation
Discuss whether to change assessment requirement
Action Taken
Unit Coordinator recommended assessment 1 be changed in 2022; this has occurred.
Source: Verbal feedback, reflections from students within assessment 1, formal evaluation response
Feedback
Week 1 readings identified as overwhelming and confronting (Ife 2016 first chapter, crisis focused)
Recommendation
Week one to be more general introduction to community practice
Action Taken
The prescribed readings followed those from previous years. The readings can be reviewed for 2022 and new Unit Coordinator to amend as appropriate.
Source: Verbal feedback, formal evaluation response
Feedback
Introduce ABCD earlier in semester (currently week 9) seen as an important and highly relevant perspective, particularly for assessment 2 due week 6
Recommendation
Rearrange order of weekly topics to reflect usefulness for assessments
Action Taken
The weekly topics followed those from previous years. This has been reviewed for 202 and amended as appropriate.
Source: Formal evaluation response (x2)
Feedback
Tutorials requested - on campus and via Zoom.
Recommendation
Weekly Zoom sessions can be offered as tutorials if required (student preference this semester was for discussion of topics rather than delivering a powerpoint on the week's topic) Covid-19 restrictions prohibited on campus tutorials
Action Taken
Tutorial voting option was provided for 2021, however student attendance was still low. Unit coordinator to continue to explore strategies to increase student engagement.
Source: Student feedback
Feedback
Students reported some confusion with assessment tasks and there appeared to be some inconsistency between the unit profile and assessment task outline uploaded on Moodle.
Recommendation
Improve student engagement with the unit profile through regular messaging in discussion forums. Review the unit profile and resources on Moodle for consistency.
Action Taken
Nil.
