This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.
These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
There are no other entry requirements for this qualification.
Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.
Additional information
Vocational placement of at least 120 hours is required and is organised by CQUniversity. A vocational placement competency logbook must be signed off to confirm essential skills gained. If the student is employed as a support worker, they may be eligible to complete the 120 hours in their workplace.
To determine the students’ eligibility to complete the vocational component in their workplace or a placement arranged by the CQU Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team, a placement application form will be required to be completed by all students undertaking this course.
For vocational placement, students must undergo compulsory pre-placement requirements as outlined in the Mandatory Checks Requirements.
Effective 25 September 2023, updates have been made to the COVID-19 vaccination mandate for Queensland Health sites and the Queensland Ambulance Service. While Queensland Health does not currently mandate evidence of COVID-19 vaccination, it's essential to recognise that other organisations may enforce their own vaccination specific criteria. This situation is similar across other states and territories, with the exception of Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, where COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for all healthcare students.

Residential School Information
As this course is delivered through a blended delivery method (Mixed Mode), students will be required to undertake 2 blocks of residential schools throughout the duration of their course: 1 x 1 day block and 1 x 3 day block as scheduled by CQUniversity to prepare for vocational placements.
Residential schools for this course are conducted on campus in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Mackay City, Rockhampton North and Townsville.
Throughout the duration of this course, students will be required to undertake 2 blocks of residential schools: 1 x 1 day block and 1 x 3 day block, at a campus of their choosing.
**Residential school dates will be confirmed by your teacher in accordance with your commencement intake and course progression. Students are advised to confirm dates with their teacher prior to making travel and personal arrangements.
Residential 1 date (1 day)
**Undertaken once you have completed the 1st sequence of units and have completed, (or at least enrolled into) the 2nd sequence units.
Residential 2 dates (3 day)
**Undertaken once you have completed the 3rd sequence of units and completed, (or at least enrolled into) the 4th sequence of units.

As per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety, students are required to meet Mandatory Check Requirements prior to completing their Vocational Placement.

Vocational Placement
Students are required to:
- Meet Mandatory Check Requirements as per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety.
- Complete a mandatory work placement of at least 120 hours of direct support work in at least one aged care, home and community, disability or community service organisation, and
- Meet the assessment conditions per unit of competency, which includes work placement and/or simulated assessment
Depending upon the capacity of the health care providers/facilities in the student’s geographical area, students may be expected to travel to an alternative location to complete their prescribed work placement. Students will only be offered one placement per student, per course, per term.

It is a requirement that you have access to internet connection to access online resources which would include email, ZOOM, Microsoft Teams and Moodle.
It is strongly recommended that you have access to a broadband connection or higher to access online resources that would include but are not limited to, email, internet, video streaming, electronic assessment submission.
All submissions of assessment must be uploaded electronically to the VET Moodle platform.
