This unit will introduce you to concepts and knowledge required to effectively care for patients experiencing complex alterations in health. You will critically consider the care provided to patients, including strategies to assist individuals and significant others when dealing with health crises. In addition, effective communication and collaboration in a complex situation is paramount. Appropriate provision of care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe nursing care in various complex health care situations will be adopted in this unit. You will be expected to function within the scope of practice of a nursing student in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA) registered nurse standards for practice during the compulsory three (3) day residential school or timetabled internal nursing laboratory sessions and 160 hour clinical placement consisting of 80 hours of complex care and 80 hours of mental health setting.

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
