Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Online Quiz(zes) 15%
2. Practical Assessment 15%
3. Presentation 20%
4. Online Test 50%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Student Unit and Teaching Evaluation (SUTE) survey
Feedback
Students complimented teaching staff and methods and the learning opportunity that the unit provides, and lauded the interactive nature of the learning experience.
Recommendation
To maintain a high level of student-facilitator interaction, especially in the tutorials. Encourage students to ask questions and complete their assessments in the tutorial class where practicable.
Action Taken
Student-facilitator interaction is a key to student-centered learning. In order to facilitate this, we ensure that lecturers ask students questions in the lecture and ask them to share their experiences in project management. Also, we sometimes bring students in front of the class and do some whiteboard exercises together. We also form small groups and ask them to discuss various concepts. In the tutorial, we have practical work on MS Project which is very interacting, and students enjoy this element. Apart from the work on MS Project Practicals, students also work on some group activities on a range of case studies and share their ideas with their peers.

Feedback
Students expressed concern about the complicated nature of assessment descriptions and the dispersed information locations in Moodle.
Recommendation
To review and streamline the assessment specifications, and relocate all information about an assessment in one Moodle location.
Action Taken
The Assessment Block outlines all detailed information about the assessments. The weekly worksheets also have assessment information based on the weeks the assessments are due. The assessment details are centralised in the Assessment Block for both students' and teaching teams' convenience.

Feedback
The different assessment submission deadlines for onshore and offshore students created confusion and dissatisfaction among some students.
Recommendation
To impose and enforce a single submission deadline for each assessment item. However onshore students should still be encouraged to submit by the end of their class, instilling a sense of urgency and enhancing planning and personal time management skills.
Action Taken
We do not have any offshore cohort anymore. On-shore students are required to submit assessment 1 and 2 in their scheduled tutorials. This information has been highlighted in the Assessment Block and respective tutorial worksheets. The unit coordinator and tutors communicate the information with students on a regular basis.

Feedback
Lecture recordings should be updated.
Recommendation
Recordings are gradually updated; however, it needs to be made clear that on-campus students are required to attend face-to-face lectures, and recordings are offered as supplementary resources.
Action Taken
Nil.

Feedback
Students enjoy real-life case studies and request more real-world examples and exercises.
Recommendation
More case-study-based discussions and assessments will be phased into the Unit. At least one external speaker per term should be engaged to give students an industry perspective.
Action Taken
Nil.

Feedback
The assessment task descriptions are not always clear to students.
Recommendation
Assessment tasks are continuously updated, and task descriptions are subject to peer review. An assessment discussion is to be included in the weekly tutorials to give continuous guidance and answer queries. This is also expected to help students' time management in completing assessment tasks.
Action Taken
Nil.
