This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting, who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support. This Qualification has specialisation pathways of ageing, disability, home and community. To achieve this qualification, the student must have completed at least 120 hours of vocational placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency. The unit CHCCCS023, support independence and well being links with the vocational placement.
Completion of the BKSB (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
There are no other entry requirements for this course however there are mandatory clinical placement requirements which need to be met. Mandatory clinical placement requirements as per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety.

Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.
Additional information
Vocational Placement of at least 120 hours is required and is organised by CQUniversity. A Vocational placement competency logbook must be signed off to confirm essential skills gained. Third-Party assessments require a minimum of 120 hours and competency achieved in all units. If the student is employed in a carer capacity, they may be exempt from the placement component however they will still be required to have competencies signed off in the workplace and provide evidence of having worked a minimum of 120hrs. Please contact your teacher regarding your employment, should this be the case.

Residential School Information
As this course is delivered through a blended delivery method (Mixed Mode), students will be required to undertake two (2) x 2 day residential schools blocks as scheduled by CQUniversity* in order to prepare for vocational placements.
Residential classes will be held from 8:30am to 3pm across the below dates. *Residential school dates will be provided by your teacher in accordance with your commencement intake and course progression. Mandatory Check Requirements
As per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety, students are required to meet Mandatory Check Requirements prior to completing their Vocational Placement.

Vocational Placement
Students are required to:
- Meet Mandatory Check Requirements as per the CQU Immunisation Policy and for patient and student safety.
- Complete a mandatory work placement of at least 120 hours of direct support work in at least one aged care, home and community, disability or community service organisation, and
- Meet the assessment conditions per unit of competency, which includes work placement and/or simulated assessment
Depending upon the capacity of the health care providers/facilities in the student’s geographical area, students may be expected to travel to an alternative location in order to complete their prescribed work placement. Students will only be offered one placement per student, per course, per term.

It is a requirement that you have access to internet connection to access online resources which would include email, ZOOM, Microsoft Teams and Moodle.
